Eastside Studios

Helen Osborn

My work as a mixed media artist is primarily focused on creating installations and sculptures from re-used and modified found objects.  Through these objects, synonymous with everyday life, I seek to tell a narrative or raise questions about the routines and regulations that govern and shape life in modern society.  I am particularly interested in exploring how we adapt or react to these circumstances and the mechanisms we use to provide a distraction or escape from reality.

Visually, I am inspired by street culture, urban landscapes and my travels overseas, in particular to South America.

I also draw on previous experience of working in the private sector, in particular the marketing and communications industry, with its use of text to change and distort our interpretation of imagery.

I have recently completed a BTEC Foundation in Art and Design (Distinction) at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (Birmingham City University).
